Note from the Faculty Advisor Prof. Mohan Venkatachalam

Dear all,

It gives me great pleasure to bring to you the inaugural issue of Duke Business Journal, a student-led, original content publication that aspires to benefit all members of the Fuqua community. The journal would not have come to fruition without the hard work and vision of a team of Global Executive MBA 2019 students, Vinod D’Souza, Nick Panos and the members of the editorial board.

From the Editors

Welcome to the inaugural issue of Duke Business Journal (DBJ), a publication established for the benefit of both Team Fuqua and the Duke community writ large! In a very short time, we have gone from an idea and initial pitch to the product you are now reading.

MBA Student Spotlights: Stuart Styles

This edition’s student profile features Stuart Styles, a Daytime MBA Class of 2020 candidate. Prior to coming to Fuqua, Stuart was in investment research and asset management. Most recently, he was an associate at BlackRock, where he served on a portfolio management team that managed custom multi-asset portfolios for clients. Before BlackRock, Stuart spent a few years as an investment analyst at CapTrust Advisors based out of Raleigh, NC.

Student Blog: How Duke’s #TeamFuqua is changing the world, not just one leader at a time

When I joined Duke, I was asked several times during the admission process about my personal career goals and aspirations. My answer has never changed: I want to change the global health prospective. As a physician, my focus is healthcare and I feel that any disease treatment should be available to all human beings. For what is more valuable than life? I pursued an MBA because I [think] that the world needs to be a better place, one where my kids can be safe, happy, and healthy no matter where they are.
